A water soluble polysaccharide, glucomannan is a dietary fiber marketed for the relief of common gastrointestinal disorders. Hemi cellulose, present in conifer and several other types of tree, has also been shown to decrease the amount of food intake in animals.
As a polysaccharide, glucomannan contains long chains of simple sugars, primarily composed of mannose and glucose. Besides being present in many different dietary fiber supplements, glucomannan has also been used to promote weight-loss. The primary source of glucomannan is an Asian plant known as konjac.
As with any soluble fiber there is the potential for glucomannan to bind to and reduce the absorption of essential nutrients. High doses also tend to cause diarrhea, flatulence, and/or constipation. Orovo recommends that you consult a physician before you begin taking any new health supplement blend.
