Garlic
Despite its very pungent smell, garlic is known to be rich in a variety of powerful sulfur-containing compounds called thiosulfinates, sulfoxides, and dithiins. Not only does garlic produce a strong smell, it is also known to promote health-optimizing benefits to the human body. Garlic has been used to aid in cardiovascular health, athersclerosis, maintain cholesterol level, and control high blood pressure. There also have been reports of garlic helping to prevent or fight the common cold. In addition, garlic is full of vitamin B6, vitamin C, and selenium.
Potential Benefits of Garlic
- Reduce platelet aggression
- First observed as an antiseptic by Louis Pasteur
- Prevent complications of diabetes mellitus
- Thins blood similar to the way aspirin does
- May raise antioxidant levels and fight harmful chemicals
- May help prevent and treat hair loss
- Potential treatment for sickle cell anemia
